Location:
University of Minnesota East Bank Minneapolis, Room 325 Education Sciences Building, 56 East River Road, Minneapolis, 55455

Enrollment minimum of 10 students and maximum limited to 30 students

Course Description

This course promotes participants' abilities to:

  • understand how sexual abuse presents at very young ages
  • become familiar with research relevant to assessment at this age
  • reflect on how protective services can be offered to this vulnerable group
  • learn developmentally-based assessment procedures for children 18-36 months
  • learn developmentally-based assessment procedures for children 3-4 years of age
  • understand how to manage cases of suspected sexual abuse with very young children

All who work with a young preschool population are welcome. This training can enhance the professional development of teachers, students and mental health providers working with this population. Research highlighting the importance of intervention in abuse with even very young children will precede a review of assessment techniques for children 18-36 months and children 3-4 years when sexual abuse is suspected. This will be followed by a discussion of intervention and management techniques to help protect these children's safety.

This class is restricted to direct service providers.
