Infant/Toddler
Provider Companion Guide Development Project
|
|
|
Project Description
|
The goal of this project is to provide
a companion guide to the Minnesota Core Competencies that defines
knowledge and skills for adults who care for infants and toddlers.
The design/writing team represents diverse community groups as well
as a variety of early care and education settings. In addition to
the various perspectives on the team, we are also addressing
language/cultural gaps by contracting with community facilitators.
These facilitators represent their communities and gather feedback
about samples of the work.
The Minnesota Department of Human
Services has appointed five specific tasks that will culminate in
this companion guide:
- Create a companion guide to the
Minnesota Core Competencies that specifically addresses the
critical knowledge and skills needed to provide quality
infant/toddler care in a format that is easily understandable
and user friendly.
- Address primary caregiving,
continuing of care, individualized curriculum, developmental
appropriateness, and family partnerships in the context of
center care, family child care, and family, friend, and neighbor
care.
- Develop a crosswalk between the
0-3 Indicators of Progress and those core competencies
identified as critical for infant/toddler providers with
specific examples translating concepts into practice and daily
routines.
- Engage communities of color and
refugee and immigrant communities in the development of the
companion guide to ensure culturally relevant material.
- Provide recommendations for
methods of dissemination that will address access and outreach
needs.
