What are
the specific goals of the early childhood movement in Minnesota? How
are we fulfilling the tenets of best practice? To what extent do
efforts in Minnesota reflect state-of-the-art thinking in the field?
Or, how closely aligned are our efforts with what is known to work?
What kind of progress are we making?
The nexus of a greater and
ever-increasing knowledge base and significant public and political
interest in early care and education makes the gaps in intellectual
leadership more evident than ever. Questions and pressures the field
is now facing requires not only program and content knowledge but
also abilities of synthesis, critical analysis, inference, and
translation.
CEED's McKnight Capacity Building grant
includes four specific areas of work:
- Developing a conceptual foundation
for early childhood education and development in
Minnesota. Activities include articulation of how current
services and planned innovations align with needed best
practices and appraisal of new innovations in the years ahead.
-
Assessment and Training Center. Establishing a center for
training, assessment and program improvement for practitioners
and programs throughout the state to gain competence in
improving early childhood education programs.
- Building capacity to address
emerging issues in early childhood education via planning,
analysis and recommendation.
