Ardell H. Wantoch
Ardell H. Wantoch, a member of the University of Minnesota faculty beginning in 1959 until her retirement as an assistant professor in June of 1980, had primary roles in the teacher education program in home economics education. A dedicated educator throughout her career, Wantoch worked to develop a high level of professional commitment and dedication in the students she taught in educational methods courses and those she supervised as student teachers.
During her tenure at the University, Professor Wantoch took a particular interest in the role of supervising student teachers and was the key person responsible for the formulation of guidelines for the student teaching program in the Home Economics Education Department. She also provided leadership in a variety of other projects, including the development of a middle school program at the University, the development of a program to assist student county agents in developing improved skill levels for data gathering and interpretation, and the development of a consumer home economics program option in the Division of Home Economics Education. The latter project culminated with a follow-up study designed to provide teachers with in-service assistance that would more effectively enhance their independence in solving problems.
During her career at the University, Professor Wantoch held membership in several professional organizations such as the National and Minnesota Education Associations, the American and Minnesota Vocational Associations, the National Society for the study of Education and the Association for Student Teaching. She was also selected for membership in various honor societies, such as Omicron Nu, Pi Lambda Theta and Phi Upsilon Omicron. Following her retirement, Wantoch was granted the honorary title of Professor Emeritus. Professor Wantoch died in 1996.
The Ardelle H. Wantoch Graduate Assistantship fund was established in 1987 and has supported graduate students since 1995.
