Endorsement requirements

For those individuals who need keyboarding and/or computer applications courses, keyboarding and computer applications courses are available at technical and community colleges. At the University of Minnesota the following courses are available:

Computing technical content/skills:

CI 5301—Foundations of Computer Applications for Business and Education (3 cr)
Instructional uses of computers and representative business, education, and marketing applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphic design.

Keyboarding technical content/skills:

Competency exam administered by University of Minnesota or evidence of prior keyboarding instruction

Professional methods meeting endorsement requirements:

CI 5300—Teaching Introductory Computer Concepts and Skills (2 cr)
Pedagogical strategies for teaching keyboarding and word processing.

CI 5351—Technology Tools for Educators (3 cr)
Develop skills in using technology applications to support teaching and learning. Internet applications, presentation sofware, Web 2.0 technologies, and Website development

CI 5361—Teaching and Learning with the Internet (3 cr)
Implications/challenges in using Internet-based technologies in classroom. Pedagogical models.

CI 5390—Field Experience in Learning Technologies (2 cr)
Student teaching practicum in computer skills and concepts.

Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examination (MTLE)

Information regarding the required content knowledge exam may be acquired through the MTLE website
