New policy limiting GRAD 999 enrollment
Approved by C&I faculty 2-23-09GRAD 999 Policy
Effective Fall semester, 2009, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction will allow active M.A. and Ph.D. students to register for GRAD 999 a maximum of two times. Written approval is not required. Following are possible legitimate reasons for using GRAD 999 up to two times:
- A student’s coursework is complete and s/he is working on completing preliminary exams (students without assistantships or financial aid only); if holding an assistantship or receiving financial aid, students should use CI 8666;
- A student has completed all credits, including thesis credits, but has not yet finished the thesis;
- A student has extraordinary family circumstances or personal health reasons;
- A student who has an unanticipated or an unparalleled opportunity for professional development (e.g., an overseas fellowship, a promotion to a leadership position, etc.).
Students who attempt to register for GRAD 999 after the departmental maximum has been reached will find a hold placed on any future GRAD 999 registrations.
Students who have exhausted their quota of allowable GRAD 999 credits and who have completed coursework should register for one of the following, based on individual circumstance. Students should consult the Graduate School Catalog, Graduate Studies Handbook or the Graduate Studies Assistant to inquire about eligibility.
CI 8333 FTE: Master’s (1 cr. per term)
CI 8777 M.A. Thesis Credits (max crs 50)
CI 8444 FTE: Doctoral (1 cr. per term)
CI 8666 Doctoral Pre-Thesis Credits (max crs 12)
CI 8888 Thesis Credits: Doctoral (max cr 100)
