C&I Graduate Studies Mission Statement
With adherence to the C&I departmental and CEHD missions:
The C&I Graduate Studies mission is to prepare graduate students to provide leadership in education through rigorous scholarship, mindful practice, and responsive service in collaboration with schools and communities.
Graduate Studies Handbook
The information contained in this Graduate Studies Handbook pertains primarily to the advanced degrees conferred through the Graduate School, i.e., the M.A. and Ph.D., though some information regarding the M.Ed. Professional Studies programs is also included. For more information about M.Ed. programs (including initial licensure programs leading to a M.Ed.) and our undergraduate program, please visit the Curriculum and Instruction and CEHD Student Services websites, and the College's M.Ed. Handbook.
This handbook will be invaluable on your path to degree completion. It serves as an important element in building a shared sense of expectations and responsibilities for your graduate education in the department. For detailed information regarding M.A. and Ph.D. programs, students and faculty should refer to and become familiar with the following comprehensive documents available on the Graduate School’s website.
- Graduate School Catalog, which provides detailed information about Graduate School policies and major program regulations
- Graduate School’s Graduate Student Handbook, which highlights the many resources available to graduate students at the University
- University’s Registration Page, which includes course schedules and deadlines for current semesters
Of course, the handbook and other written materials are not always sufficient. Whenever you have questions, be sure to contact the Graduate Studies Assistant, Director of Graduate Studies (DGS), other faculty or staff. The office staff and Graduate Studies Assistant are most helpful with questions about university regulations, tuition, registration, etc. Faculty, however, should remain the main source of guidance on course selection and other academic matters.
Again, welcome to the department. We are so glad that you decided to make the C & I department your community.
