CRDEUL faculty affiliates receive national honors
David Arendale and Jeanne Higbee each received an award from the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) at the professional organization’s national conference in Portland, Oregon, in November. Arendale received the Karen G. Smith Special Recognition Award, while Higbee was recognized with the Robert Griffin Long and Outstanding Service Award. Both have been affiliated with the Center for Research on Developmental Education and Urban Literacy (CRDEUL) since relocating to the University of Minnesota in 1999 and 2002, respectively. Arendale has served as CRDEUL’s adviser for outreach. Higbee currently serves as CRDEUL’s interim director and is also the chair of CRLA’s Media Advisory Board (MAB). Higbee co-edited the advisory board’s first publication, Best Practices in College Reading and Learning: In Memory of Cynthia L. Peterson, to honor the contributions of the former editor of CRLA’s Journal of College Reading and Learning. The monograph was disseminated at the conference.
