Daily schedule
Following a structured routine allows children to feel safe and secure within a very predictable environment
- 7:30-8:45
- Arrival /Foyer time. During this time, we are merged with the older preschool classroom. Children engage in free play and sometimes large motor play during drop-off time before breakfast. We begin cleaning up for breakfast around 8:40.
- 8:45-9:15
- Breakfast (children that have arrived after 9:15 cannot be served center breakfast)
- 9:15-9:45
- Bathroom Tries and Independent Book Time. (or other sit-down activities) Our Multi-purpose Room time is (9:20-9:45) The schedule will be adjusted to allow for indoor large motor, as weather and seasons effect the needs of the children.
- 9:45-10:00
- Large Group time. This is a Morning Check in that welcomes all of the children and teachers. Morning Group time is often used to discuss or read about the current curricular topic. We also sing songs, play group games and have a chance to share news. At the end of Morning Group Time, we give the children a verbal plan for the morning, so they know what to expect.
- 10:00-11:00
Indoor Free Play: During this time, children are able to engage in socio dramatic play (in the foyer or the play castle), build with blocks and other materials that encourage symbolic play, explore sensory materials, create art, investigate the science center, engage in literacy activities and participate in various teacher directed activities. All materials and activities available to children are thoughtfully planned and inspired by individual and group needs, developmentally appropriate practice and emergent (child initiated) curricular themes. (see weekly curriculum plan posted on your child’s cubby every Monday)
- 11:00-11:40
- Outdoor Large Motor Play. Our preschool playground features various types of large motor equipment and outdoor toys intended to encourage development in skills such as: strength, balance, spacial awareness and planning, bilateral movement, as well as other cognitive and social skills. We also take field trips to Van Cleve Park, and other close places to allow novel large motor experiences.
- 11:40-11:45
- transition indoors (dumping shoe sand in the warmer months, books, puzzles or art will be available according to needs and time)
- 11:45-12:30
- Lunch/Clean up/Bathroom tries and Tooth brushing: The first lunch group starts lunch between 11:45 and 11:50. The second lunch group starts between 11:50 and 11:55. While children are waiting to have their bathroom turn, they can share books with each other.
- 12:30-12:45
- Story time in the Foyer (any extra bathroom tries or other bathroom jobs happen during this time)
- 12:45-1:00
- Gather Blankets, Transition to nap, children begin to wind down, and a teacher reads from a chapter book to help with the “calm down” transition.
- 1:00-3:00
- Rest time. Children who do not fall asleep, but rested for 30 minutes are allowed to go to the foyer for quiet activities until other children wake up.
- 3:00-3:15
- Gather for a Teacher led story time before snack (transition to snack)
- 3:15-3:40
- Snack time
- 3:40-3:50
- Afternoon Large Group time (mirrors Morning Group Time)
- 3:50-4:30
- Indoor Free Play.
- 4:30-5:30
- Outdoor Free Play and Pick Up Time. (During the Winter Months, Outdoor free play occurs before Indoor free play)
