How to Apply
To have your child’s name added to the waiting list, please send all of the following items to:

- $25 application fee (cash or check only- make checks payable to the University of Minnesota)
- For an unborn child, you must submit documented evidence from your physician of a confirmed pregnancy after the first trimester. Please use this form.
On your application, indicate your preferred start date (day/month/year). You can be offered a space at the Center as early as 30 days before your preferred start date. (For example, if your child can start at the Center on April 1, 2015, your application should have a preferred start date of May 1, 2015). If your preferred start date is flexible, indicate that in addition to a preferred start date. Occasionally, this flexibility has helped the Center and families.
Notify UMCDC of any changes to your contact information or affiliation. It is your responsibility to notify us of any changes in regards to your address, telephone numbers (work and home), preferred start date, and affiliation with the University of Minnesota. We will ask you to formally update your application twice annually, in the fall and in the spring, by e-mailing you a waiting list update form. If you do not return the update form to us by the date specified, we will assume you are no longer interested in enrolling at UMCDC.
You must be affiliated with the University to enroll and to remain enrolled.
The average wait to enroll is 18 months from your date of application. When a space becomes available in one of the classrooms, priority is given to:
- Age-appropriate internal movement
- Children who are on our waiting list with siblings already enrolled (“sibling priority”)
- Children of Center staff members
You will be contacted by e-mail or telephone when it is your child’s turn to enroll. You will need to accept or decline the enrollment offer within 24 hours. You will be given at least 2 weeks notice before your child may begin attending the Center. (We require a two-week written departure notice from families leaving our program. Therefore, you will be given the same amount of time to notify your current care provider, if necessary.) If you accept the offer, you will then set up a meeting with the Enrollment Coordinator and/or Director to go over the enrollment materials and meet with the Area Coordinator of the bungalow in which your child is enrolling.
