Recent data about graduates of the Initial Licensure Program
A recent employer survey shows that1:
85% of participating employers gave positive ratings on the quality of teachers prepared by the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota.
Recent graduate surveys show that2*:
90-93% of program completers report being employed as teachers in their first year after program completion.
12-13% of these teachers are employed as short-term substitutes.
About 85% teach in Minnesota.
Most report making a base teaching salary between $30,000 and $36,000.
2007 follow-up survey of initial teacher licensure programs show that3*:
Many program completers move to a new teaching position during their second year of teaching. Only 49% held the same job during both their first and second years of teaching.
Program completers were employed in:
- public schools – 82%
- non-public schools – 7%
- other settings – 12%
Type of positions held by program completers:
- regular teaching position – 89%
- long-term substitute – 3%
- short-term substitute – 6%
- teacher resident – 2%
*The survey population includes graduates and completers of baccalaureate and post-baccalaureate programs in CEHD that prepare individuals for initial licensure in teaching.
