Tips on writing your application essay and résumé
Technology education undergraduate program
Preparation
Gather information:
- Research and read about the program.
- Attend an info session to gather more information. If you can't make it to a session, contact Arien Telles, transfer admissions coordinator.
- Visit the Exploratory, Transition, and Career Services center in 127 Appleby Hall to help you edit your essay or to learn more about the program.
Writing the essay
Describe your career goals including why you want to be a technology education teacher (limit to one page):
- Introduce yourself and the purpose of the essay.
- State your name, the college, and major/program to which you are applying.
- What are your interests and experiences that relate to
technology education?
- Highlight your past and current interests and/or experiences in technology education (be specific and give examples) and relate it to why you are pursuing a major in technology education in general, and why you want to be a technology education teacher.
- How do you feel you might contribute to the field of
technology education?
- What do you bring and what do you have to offer this field (i.e., your skills, what makes you stand out).
- How will the technology education program in CEHD help you
to achieve your goals?
- Make a summary statement such as: “As highlighted above, I believe that the technology education program in the College of Education and Human Development will help me to achieve my goals because _____(insert your thoughts)_____.”
