What are the admissions requirements?
All components of the individual application records are considered in the admissions
process and decisions. Reviewers look for evidence that students can take advantage
of the programs academically and have career goals that match the program. Below
are the preferred performance levels of some components of the admissions package.
- 3.0 undergraduate grade point average
- 3.5 graduate grade point average
- 500 Verbal, 500 Quantitative and 4.5 Analytical Writing
GRE scores (domestic students only) or 550
TOEFL/6.5 IELTS
scores (international students)
What do I need to apply?
When should I apply?
CIDE M.A. applications are reviewed twice a year: March 1 and,
if any openings remain, April 15. If any portion of the application
is missing or if no openings exist, applications are not considered until the next
review date, which may be the following year.

Note to international students: International
Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) offers personal and academic advising, immigration
and visa regulation advising, and intercultural training to students, staff, and
faculty. ISSS also coordinates support groups and other activities for University
of Minnesota international students.

Graduate minor in international education
Admission to the international education minor is contingent upon prior admission
to the Graduate School and to an M.A. or Ph.D. program at the University of Minnesota.
Admission to the minor program is limited and only by permission of the International
Education Committee and the director of graduate studies. Students interested in
this option are welcome to consult with the director of graduate studies.
