| The U of M educational administrator licensure program
is pleased to announce a new teaching team for EdPA 5387—Administration
of Teaching and Learning. Dr. Jennifer York-Barr, professor of educational
policy and administration and an award-winning teacher, along with Dr. Jeff
Ronneberg, director of teaching and learning in the Spring Lake Park School
District, and Jenny Sommerness, an EdPA doctoral student, will launch a
totally revised version of this course in the summer 2007 session.
Recognizing the multiple layers of influence on student learning and
achievement, as depicted in the figure below, the course will now address
how to design and implement an inclusive and coherent system of teaching
and learning for both students and educators. Leadership as ethical practice
is an underlying principle in the course design and implications. Specifically
emphasized will be strategies to engage all students, especially those with
diverse learning interests and needs, in high quality learning. Questions
that frame the course are: (1) What does a coherent and inclusive system
of teaching and learning look like?; and (2) What are the roles of educational
leaders, administrators and teacher leaders, in advancing teaching and learning?
Teams of practicing Minnesota educators will be featured in class sessions.

In addition to graduate students pursuing administrative licensure, current
and aspiring administrators and teacher leaders are welcome to enroll in
this course. We encourage teams of educators to attend and learn together.
This course will also count as the elective option for the U of M graduate
level Certificate in Professional Development. The Summer 2007 course will
meet the following dates and times: Wednesday, May 30, 4:40-9:05; Monday,
June 18, 8:30-3:30; Thursday, June 21, 8:30-12N; Monday, June 25, 8:30-3:30;
and Wednesday, June 27, 8:30-12N. 220 Wulling Hall. The course will be offered
every Spring and Summer semester.
