Additional ResourcesAdditional resources are available online and in academic libraries. Here are a few we recommend: Excellent reviews of the literature on teacher retention, with annotated bibliographies, have been written by the Project on the Next Generation of Teachers at Harvard, and by RAND. NGT study entitled: “Who stays in teaching and why: A review of the literature on teacher retention” URL: http://www.aarp.org/nrta/teaching.html RAND study entitled: “A Review of the Research Literature on Teacher Recruitment and RetentionURL: http://www.rand.org/pubs/technical_reports/TR164/ Google Scholar was used to locate additional evaluations of programs intended to increase recruitment and retention as well as theoretical articles adding insights into the potential variables impacting recruitment and retention. A recent Google Scholar search using the terms: STEM Teacher Recruitment (5,300), STEM Teacher Retention (6,360), “STEM Teacher Recruitment”(1), and “STEM Teacher Retention”[1](0) turned up the number of results shown following each term. We include a copy of the top 100 results from that search as well as the URL for Google Scholar. Top 100 results: June 2006 Google Scholar URL: http://scholar.google.com/schhp?hl=en&tab=ws&q= [1] Using quotations in the second set of queries reduced results to only those using the entire statement in the order shown.
