Coursework for M.A. statistics education concentration

It is assumed that M. A. students will generally begin their studies in the Fall semester and follow the sequence of courses below.

Semester 1 (10 credits)

  • EPSY 5221 Basic Principles of Educational Measurement (4 cr.)
  • EPSY 5247 Qualitative Methods in Educational Research (3 cr.)
  • EPSY 8261 Statistical Methods I: Probability and Inference (3 cr.)+

Semester 2 (12 credits)

  • EPSY 5114 Psychology of Student Learning (3 cr.)++*
  • EPSY 5243 Principles and Methods of Evaluation (3 cr.)
  • EPSY 8262 Statistical Methods II: Regression and the General Linear Model (3 cr.)
  • MTHE 5171 Teaching Problem Solving (3 cr.)**

Semester 3 (12 credits)

  • EPSY 5157 Social Psychology of Education (3 cr.)++*
  • EPSY 5244 Survey Design, Sampling, and Implementation (3 cr.)
  • EPSY 5272 Statistics Teaching Internship (3 cr.)
  • MTHE 5314 Teaching and Learning Mathematics (3 cr.)**

Semester 4 (6 - 13 credits)

  • EPSY 5271 Becoming a Teacher of Statistics (3 cr.)
  • EPSY 8777 Thesis Credits: Master's (10 cr.) for Plan A
    OR
    EPSY5991 Independent Study or EPSY8994 Research Problems (3 cr.) for Plan B

Total credits 40 - 47

+ Students must have had an introductory statistics course prior to registering for EPSY 8261

++Satisfies the learning and/or social psychology requirement

* Other courses that can be substituted are listed in the Educational Psychology Graduate Program Handbook

** MTHE 8571 Research in Math Education may be substituted; satisfies the EPSY requirement for 6 credits in a related field
