Help us celebrate our 10th anniversary—a reunion of past MICI alumni and friends.
The Minnesota International Counseling Institute (MICI) has been held every two years since 1989, with the goal of bringing together individuals from different regions of the world to promote the cross-cultural exchange of theories, techniques, and research about the counseling, psychology, and education professions. Designed primarily for those involved in counseling practice, training, supervision, and/or research, the institute offers participants an intensive learning experience with international colleagues. Enrollment is limited to maximize the cross-cultural exchange of practices and ideas.
The institute will be conducted in the English language.

What will we do?
During the institute, we will:
- hear from experts in counseling and mental health
- work in small groups on social themes affecting mental health
- have opportunities to present research/papers at an international meeting
- enhance our skills and professional development
What will we gain?
The institute is designed to:
- enrich each person's cross-cultural understanding of counseling, counseling psychology, and human development;
- facilitate participants' development of counselor, psychology, and human development training models appropriate to their home setting; and
- encourage collaborative, cross-cultural projects.
MICI is offered primarily for foreign nationals who are involved in training, supervision, research, teaching, and/or practice of counseling. However, a few spots are available for U.S. counselors to participate.
Endorsement
The MICI is endorsed by the American Psychological Association Division 17 Society of Counseling Psychology, and the American Counseling Association.
NEW! Global discussions is a new format for the MICI that encourages dialogue and exchange between participants, MICI faculty, and presenters. Toward the end of each presentation, participants will meet in small groups to discuss the implications and application of the material presented for their various country contexts. A summary of these discussions will be presented at the last day of the institute.
Call for papers and presentations
Participants are invited to present papers. Your proposal must include the following: title of presentation; presenter’s name, title, address, e-mail; and a 250–300 word abstract.
