Marriage & Family Therapy
The Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) Program is a part of the doctoral program of the Department of Family Social Science. The mission of the MFT Program is to educate and mentor the next generation of leaders and agents of social change in the field of marriage and family therapy by working systemically with culturally diverse families and communities locally and internationally. MFT students will be trained to become world-class therapists, trainers of therapists, therapy researchers, therapy supervisors, therapy program developers, and therapy administrators.
Who We Are (Faculty Expertise)
- We integrate Family Science and MFT in a coherent way across areas of scholarship.
- We place a strong emphasis on research, which we view from a broad range of methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative, and community based participatory action research.
- We have a diverse faculty who practice and conduct research with diverse communities.
- We encompass unique faculty expertise in community engagement with marginalized groups and those in the mainstream of society.
- We create and co-lead with fellow MFTs the new generations of thinkers, practitioners, and researchers in the field.
Supervision Training Program
Third year MFT doctoral students are eligible to apply for the supervision practicum. They provide supervision to masters students whose academic programs give approval. This supervision is supervised by MFT faculty members and meets a portion of the requirements for AAMFT approved supervisor status
