Dr. Zha Blong Xiong and his colleagues have worked over the past six years to engage various SEA communities to work together to build their capacities and change the sociocultural norms and practices around tobacco use, healthy eating, and active living lifestyles.
If you are interested in starting this work in your community, please contact one of our collaborative partners and we will be more than happy to meet with you.
The image of a flowing river carries meaning in each of the four cultures engaged in STEEP's work. The river represents:
- The source of life and blessing for health, infusing the farmlands to grow crops that feed people, and providing water for animals and trees
- Washing away negativity and bringing forth new life and luck
- Making new connections
- The process of change, as one of the STEEP educators explained "River means something that is already put forward for you, it's hard to make change, to make that change people have to come together to think about how they are going to make those changes. It takes a long time."
