Ph.D. in Kinesiology

Kinesiology Ph.D. students concentrate their studies in one of the following areas:
Behavioral Aspects of Physical Activity, Biomechanics and Neuromotor Control, Exercise Physiology, Motor Development, Motor Learning/Motor Development, Sport and Exercise Psychology, or Sport Sociology.

Degree requirements:
The Ph.D. requires 72 credits:
48 course credits (including at least 24 credits in kinesiology, 9 credits in statistical methods, 12 credits in a supporting program or  minor—statistical methods courses may be included—and an additional 3 credits in an any of these areas), and 24 thesis credits.
A 3.00 minimum GPA is required to maintain good standing and to graduate.

Language requirements: None.

Exams: Preliminary written examination, preliminary oral examination, thesis, final oral exam (thesis defense)

Minor options

Minor requirements for students majoring in other fields: A doctoral minor requires at least 12 credits of graduate-level kinesiology courses, including 5171 (3 cr) and 8980 (1 cr).
