Application for Additional Licensure
Deadlines: October 1st - Spring Semester; February 1st - Summer
Semester; June 1st - Fall Semester
Students must apply to this Additional Licensure program to ensure that 1) they are accepted and enrolled in the program, and 2) they have met CEHD qualifications in applying for the additional license with the Minnesota State Department of Education. The application for the DAPE Additional License program is available here.
The courses to fulfill the requirements for the additional license are offered at times later in the day and convenient to working students. The DAPE Practicum, KIN 5196, is a classroom experience requiring supervision by a licensed DAPE teacher along with the U of M adviser. It requires the student to be available during the day. KIN 5196 can be taken over two semesters (2 credits each semester) or one semester (4 credits). In some cases, working students with scheduling issues will take more than two semesters to complete their practicum hours. Such instances should be discussed with the adviser. Students have 7 years from the date they start their DAPE program to complete it.
When students are close to completing their course requirements, they must take a State of Minnesota qualifying exam. See the section "Taking the qualifying exam" below.
Upon successful completing the coursework and passing the State exam, students may apply for the DAPE license. Contact Pam Matti in CEHD Student Services (p-matti@umn.edu). Application materials are submitted by Ms. Matti to the Minnesota Board of Teaching. For details on applying for the DAPE license, see below, "Applying for your DAPE additional license."
