CEHD iPad Initiative
In the largest pilot of its kind at a major research university, the College of Education and Human Development began providing iPads to all CEHD freshmen in the fall 2010 semester. The entire first-year class of 447 received iPads at no cost to them. The initiative was funded by private donation.
Twenty-seven instructors in CEHD’s Department of
Postsecondary
Teaching and Learning chose to participate by agreeing to
incorporate the iPad into their curriculum. An interdisciplinary project
team, consisting of staff from CEHD’s
Academic Technology Services
and the Office for Information Technology collaborated to
distribute iPads to students and faculty, provide student training and
faculty professional development, and evaluation.
This mobile learning project is part of a focused research effort to discover how use of such a device can expand learning beyond the classroom, advance information literacy, and improve the sustainability of classrooms.
