Admission requirements to this program include the following criteria:

Application Process

All application materials should be submitted directly to the online application. We cannot review your application until all of the required materials listed below are submitted successfully. GRE scores are NOT required for M.Ed. applications.

Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Applicants are typically notified of admission decisions via email by Graduate Admissions four to six weeks after a complete application has been submitted.

Unofficial Transcripts Upload into ApplyYourself in the Educational Background section. Use the " Upload Transcript" button located at the bottom of the college/university section. You must submit a transcript for each college or university you have attended. Click here for important information about uploading your transcripts and credentials. If you are admitted, you must submit official transcripts before you enroll at the U of M.
Application Statements #1 & #2 Complete statements #1 & #2. Filling out statement #3 is optional. Statement #1 is for describing your career goals and rationale for interest in the M.Ed. program (limit of two pages).
Resume or CV Upload in "Program Supplementary Information" section  
Letters of Recommendation Paper copies are not accepted - upload via the ApplyYourself online application using the "Recommendation Section" or under the "Program Supplementary Information" section as "upload 2". Two letters of recommendation required. Acceptable recommendations will come from persons familiar with your performance who can attest to your capacity for teacher leadership (one letter from an administrator and one letter from a teaching colleague preferred).

Nonnative English speakers and/or international students

The TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS is generally required of all applicants whose first language is not English, regardless of U.S. Citizenship status.

Applicants who have completed 24 quarter credits or 16 semester credits (within the past 24 months) in residence as a full-time student at a recognized institution of higher learning in the United States (or other English-speaking country) before entering the University of Minnesota may be exempted from this requirement.
