M.Ed./Professional Studies in Leadership in Education Application
Due dates are:
July 1 for Fall semester admission
November 1 for Spring semester admission
March 1 for Summer session admission
Note: International students must apply six weeks earlier
Admission requirements to this program include the following criteria:
- A bachelor’s degree with a 3.00 overall grade point average (GPA) from an accredited institution
- Evidence of teaching experience
All application materials should be submitted directly to the online application. We cannot review your application until all of the required materials listed below are submitted successfully. GRE scores are NOT required for M.Ed. applications.
- Apply online.
- Save your PIN number and password so that you can work on the application over time.
- Follow application instructions carefully, because once your application is submitted, you will no longer have access to add/change application information or upload required supplemental material.
- As your application is being reviewed, you can log back into your account to view your current application status.
- Your admission decision will also be displayed in your application account.
Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Applicants are typically notified of admission decisions via email by Graduate Admissions four to six weeks after a complete application has been submitted.

|Letters of Recommendation||Paper copies are not accepted - upload via the ApplyYourself online application using the "Recommendation Section" or under the "Program Supplementary Information" section as "upload 2".||Two letters of recommendation required. Acceptable recommendations will come from persons familiar with your performance who can attest to your capacity for teacher leadership (one letter from an administrator and one letter from a teaching colleague preferred).|
Nonnative English speakers and/or international students
The TOEFL, MELAB, or IELTS is generally required of all applicants whose first language is not English, regardless of U.S. Citizenship status.
Applicants who have completed 24 quarter credits or 16 semester credits (within the past 24 months) in residence as a full-time student at a recognized institution of higher learning in the United States (or other English-speaking country) before entering the University of Minnesota may be exempted from this requirement.
