- Intercultural competence
After 15 years of teaching AP U.S. History, AP Macroeconomics, and IB Theory of Knowledge, I decided to pursue a doctorate at the University of Minnesota. As a Distinguished Fulbright Award in Teaching grantee in India (2010), my research project examined Theory of Knowledge curriculum and intercultural knowledge and competence. After returning home, I had so many questions about what I found in the field that the CIDE program seemed like the next logical step.
At present I am part of the MasterCard Foundation project and continue to work with intercultural education with a school in the western suburbs. This past year I led student groups to both South Africa and India as part of their intercultural education programs.
