Minnesota Association for Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE)

The Minnesota Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (MACTE) is a voluntary organization of comprised of 31 higher education institutions that prepare teachers, and a few more affiliate members. The organization is dedicated to providing standards and leadership in the preparation and development of highly qualified professional educators. MACTE represents all three Minnesota education systems including: the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, the University of Minnesota campuses, and Minnesota’s independent private colleges. MACTE is the state affiliate organization of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE). MACTE’s mission is three-fold: 1) to clarify and address issues in teaching and learning; 2) to promote quality teacher preparation and development; and 3) to share the collective knowledge and data from all of Minnesota’s state-approved teacher education programs. MACTE works together and with P-12 schools, education organizations, and other agencies to promote and assure teacher quality and student learning.

MACTE holds three meetings, two congresses and one collaborative event each year, gathering between 150 and 200 teacher educators from across the state to address and discuss state and national educational issues. Representatives from the Board of Teaching, the Minnesota State Department of Education, and Education Minnesota, the state teachers’ union, typically attend to exchange news and share perspectives with MACTE members.

Staff in the Preparation to Practice Group (PPG) are active members of MACTE, organizing and attending meetings, presenting at congresses, and sometimes serving on the MACTE Executive Committee. PPG personnel are responsible for sharing information regarding MACTE issues and initiatives with teacher educators across the CEHD.

The MACTE website has more information about the program.
