Working with today’s youth – members of the digitally savvy “Generation Y” and “Generation X” – can be challenging. Changing social contexts and the types of issues youth bring to school and after-school programs can pose new challenges. The challenges can seem even greater in urban settings, where race, ethnicity, and differing social-economic status add complexity to situations.
While every situation is unique,
“on-the-fly” counseling techniques can assist K-12 teachers and other people
who work with youth to anticipate and better handle the everyday challenges
that can be critical to student achievement and motivation.
