PsTL engagement activities are partnerships. Our faculty and staff members are participating in professional development that supports twenty-first century models of engagement, particularly with our richly diverse University neighbors. Whether the venue is research, teaching and learning, or service and outreach PsTL strives to build mutually respectful and beneficial relationships with our academic colleagues and with collaborating local, national and international communities.
College in the Schools Entry Project (eCIS)
One way we at PsTL help diverse student populations in our high schools is through the College in the Schools Entry Project (eCIS). Working with the University of Minnesota’s concurrent enrollment program, eCIS increases opportunities for college-credit coursework and supports access to postsecondary enrollment for students in their own high schools.
Traditionally, high school students who enroll in college-credit classes (AP, IB, or dual-enrollment programs) rank in the top 20 percent of their high school classes. eCIS aims to support students in the 50-80 percentile by identifying strong “entry point” courses, such as Writing Studio (Writ 1201), Mathematical Modeling & Predictions (PSTL 1006), and Physics by Inquiry (PSTL 1163). The courses are designed to support students’ adjustment to the faster pace, higher expectations and greater personal responsibility of college courses.
The College of Continuing Education has more information for high school teachers or administrators interested in offering one or more eCIS classes at area schools.
