Cedar How-to Guides

cedar@umn linkCedar@umn is a community-based repository of electronic documents and other resources that can assist users as they implement technology into their instruction. You will find basic descriptions, comparisons of similar tools, how-to's, examples, and various other resources in this repository.

Cedar@umn is concerned specifically with technologies that can be used for instructional purposes. Users of this repository will likely be instructors, professors, or other faculty and staff who are interested in expanding the effective use of technology in online and face-to-face courses.

CEHD Survey Tool

The CEHD Survey Tool is the new survey tool used within the College of Education and Human Development. Users may utilize this tool to deliver web-based surveys, collect data from survey participants, export data into CSV or SPSS format, analyze results and generate new analyses on the tool itself. This tool has been developed to compensate for some shortcomings in the COST system such as simultaneous survey completion in a lab or classroom setting, and viewing matrix question results in SPSS.

Technar

Technar the Bloginator internal linkTechnar the Bloginator is a blog tool that synthesizes all posts made in the University of Minnesota's UThink blog system regarding information technologies. Blog posts for the last thirty days are listed in chronological order. In addition to a short excerpt from the post, each entry contains a link to the directory information of the author, the blog's home page, and a link to the original post.

Video Ant

VideoAnt linkVideoANT is a simple, easy-to-use environment which synchronizes online video with timeline-based text annotations. It is designed to engage learners by supporting interactions between students, instructors, and their videos. The product supports a number of video formats from FLV to MOV. As long as the video is already online (and in the correct format) it can be annotated using the VideoANT interface. In addition, VideoANT supports links to YouTube. A sample video is available if you just want to see how it works.

iTunes U linkCamtasia Relay can be used for class capture or other demonstrations and doesn't require any special hardware other than a microphone.

eFolio linkWith eFolio you can digitally document and share your education, employment history, activities, and goals.

eReserve

eReserve linkEReserves allow instructors to make readings and other materials available to students online. EReserve material is accessible 24/7 and can be selected from a variety of sources, including electronic journals and other content licensed through the Libraries.

iTunes U

iTunes U linkiTunes U can be a useful tool to distribute class-related audio and video content to your students. If you think your content, lectures, or research should be shared with the outside world, consider contributing to the U of M’s public iTunes U site.

Media Mill linkMedia Mill is designed to make it easy to get audio and video content online, and to share it with anyone in the world.

Moodle

Moodle linkMoodle is a course management system with a variety of built-in communication, collaboration, assessment, and evaluation tools.

MyU

MyU linkMyU is a web portal that can help you organize and navigate through the millions of pages of electronic resources available from the U of M.

NetFiles

NetFiles linkThrough NetFiles the University provides 5 GB of NetFiles storage to all current students, staff, and faculty. This enables you to securely store and share files on a University server that has been approved for storing private and protected data.

RefWorks

RefWorks linkRefWorks is a web-based citation manager provided by the University of Minnesota Libraries.

UMConnect

UMConnect linkUMConnect enables you to create on-demand web presentations and to communicate and collaborate over the web through web conferences and webcasts. UMConnect content and web conferences/webcasts are delivered over the web through a supported web browser and the Flash Player.

UMSurvey

UM Survey linkUMSurvey is an academic, online survey tool which is available to current students, staff, and faculty at the University of Minnesota.

UMWiki

UMWiki linkUMWiki is a collaborative site where you can either contribute to an existing wiki or create your own for group collaboration.

UThink Blogs

UThink linkUThink is available to the faculty, staff, and students of the University of Minnesota, and is intended to support teaching and learning, scholarly communication, and individual expression for the U of M community.
