and faculty awards
The CEHD Alumni Society sponsors several awards
and scholarships to recognize excellence. Previous recipients of these awards are not
eligible.

Use this form to apply for any of the awards listed below except the
Beck Teaching Award.
The
Emerging Leader Award recognizes alumni of the College of
Education and Human Development (including graduates of the former
General College and the graduates of degree programs of the former
College of Human Ecology—family social science, home economics, and
social work) who have earned their highest degree from the college
within the last 10 years, have achieved early distinction in their
career related to education and human development, are considered
"rising stars" in their profession, and have provided volunteer
leadership and service to their communities. Nominations should list the
notable professional achievements; explain how the candidate exhibits
leadership skills through examples of vision, collaboration, creativity,
inclusion, and integrity; provide examples of how the candidate is a
mentor or role model to others; and provide examples of how the nominee
has made a difference or impact in his or her community through
volunteer service. (Self nominations will not be accepted.)
The Gordon M. A. Mork Outstanding Educator
Award recognizes a graduate of the College of Education and Human Development
who has demonstrated excellence in the field of school-based education.
The nominee must be (or have been) in teaching, counseling, or other
non-administrative roles in a school-based educational setting.
The criteria for this award include: 1) contributions in the field of
education; 2) willingness to share her or his proficiency with fellow
educators; 3) direction given to other persons by his or her example; and
4) leadership in local, state, or national education organizations.
(Self-nominations will not be accepted.) Recipient(s) will
each receive a $500 cash award.
The William E. Gardner PreK-12 Outstanding
Educator Award recognizes a graduate of the College of Education
and Human Development who has demonstrated excellence in the field of
PreK-12 school-based education. Nominees must be (or have been) in
teaching, counseling, or other non-administrative roles at the
pre-kindergarten, elementary, middle, or high school level.
The criteria
for this award include:
1) demonstrated knowledge and use of research-based best practices with
students, families, and fellow educators; 2) demonstrated willingness to
share skills, knowledge, expertise, and evidence of professional
contributions designed to enhance educational practices at any
pre-kindergarten through grade 12 level; 3) demonstrated collaborative
leadership in education in or beyond the district of employment; and 4)
demonstrated experience and success working with diverse cultures.
(Self-nominations will not be accepted.) Recipient(s) will
each receive a $500 cash award.
The Larry Wilson Award recognizes individuals who have
demonstrated excellence in educational achievement outside the traditional
school environment. The nominee
must be a graduate of the University of Minnesota and must be (or have
been) an active educator in a non-school-based setting (business,
professional organization, public agency, nonprofit corporation).
The criteria are: 1) significant contribution in the field of
non-school-based education or training, and exhibited a willingness to
share her or his proficiency with colleagues; 2) leadership in local,
state, or national non-school educational organizations; and 3) direction
given to other persons by her or his example. (Self-nominations will not
be accepted.)

Faculty award nomination form
The Robert H. Beck Faculty Teaching Award recognizes a CEHD
faculty member for outstanding contributions to education. The award is
given for excellence in teaching and advising, innovation in academic
program development, and outstanding educational leadership. The nominee
must be a full-time member of the teaching faculty in the College of
Education and Human Development for at least three academic years,
including the current year.
The criteria are: 1) teaching activities
including those conducted in tutorials, classes, seminars, retreats, and
laboratories; supervision of individual students in practicums,
internships, service-learning experiences, research, and other student
activities related to the academic program; and 2) advising activities
including both undergraduate and graduate student advising, as well as
work with adult special students in College of Education and Human
Development programs concerned with program planning, research projects,
and career concerns. Accessibility to students is an important aspect to
all such activities. Nominations must be made by students currently
enrolled in courses administered by the College of Education and Human
Development.
