Celi Marie Dean recently completed her first book, Recommitted: It's Not Too Late, and served as producer for the film Boys Cry. She is a co-founder and board member for the nonprofit organization Community Aid Liberia, whose mission is to empower rural Liberia with the necessary tools to build healthy, vibrant, and self-sustaining communities.

What professors were most influential during your time in CEHD?

There were many amazing professors I had during my four years at the University of Minnesota. William Goodman was one of the most influential.

How do you describe yourself?

Magnetic, loving, authentic, funny, and prayer warrior!

What skills are important to succeed as a young professional today?

Listening, communication, and time-management.

What gets you excited about work?

Knowing that what I’m doing is going to make a difference in the lives of others.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a mother, high school guidance counselor, and a princess.

What is a good book you would recommend to others?

The Dark Child by Camara Laye.

What is a fun fact about you?

I secretly dream of one day being on Dancing with the Stars.

What was the impact and benefit of your experience in CEHD?

The reinforcement of empathy, awareness, and being open to learn always.
