What is your favorite University of Minnesota memory?

The very first time I stepped on campus as a college freshman was a significant moment in my life. As a young kid growing up in the Twin Cities, I always dreamt of attending the University of Minnesota. Therefore, I was more than thrilled when I received the acceptance letter and ultimately began my collegiate career.

What professors were most influential during your time in CEHD?

Sandra Christenson's depth of knowledge in school psychology was very influential and inspired me to dig deeper within my studies and strive to be an expert within my field. From graduate school until the present, she continues to be a supportive mentor in my endeavors.

What skills are important to succeed as a young professional today?

Honesty, ability to delegate, commitment, ability to inspire, ability to lead, and being proactive versus reactive.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

An astronomer. I was intrigued with space and wanted to discover new planets and solar systems within our universe.

If you could have coffee with anyone from history, who would it be?

Harriet Tubman. I would like to have a discussion regarding her leadership skills, which ultimately lead to her freeing over 300 African Americans held in slavery in the South.

What gets you excited about work?

When I see procedures that I developed being systemically implemented across the school district and used effectively to enhance student achievement. CEHD's School Psychology program is highly respected around the country. Thus, my educational training within this program has placed me in an advantageous position in terms of the wealth of research, which I have been exposed to firsthand.
