Student Scholarships

The College of Education and Human Development Alumni Society sponsors several scholarships for CEHD students.

The deadline for scholarship applications and supporting materials is February 17, 2012. Previous recipients of Alumni Society scholarships are ineligible to apply.  Any questions about Alumni Society scholarships may be directed to Jon Ruzek, director of alumni relations.

Advanced Study Student Scholarship

The Advanced Study Student Scholarship recognizes academic performance and potential for making a significant contribution to the field of education and human development for students in the college's advanced study programs (M.Ed./professional studies, M.A., M.S.W., Spec. Cert., Ed.D., and Ph.D.). Note: Students pursuing initial teaching licensure are not eligible for this scholarship.

The applicant must have been admitted to an advanced study program, and at time of application, earned a minimum of 9 credits within that program, have a minimum GPA of 3.8, and be a full-time enrolled student when the scholarship is awarded (Fall 2012).

The society can award two $1,000 Advanced Study scholarships.

Family Social Science Future Scholar Award

The Family Social Science Future Scholar Award recognizes academic performance and potential for making a significant contribution to the field of family social science.  The applicant must be a junior or senior, have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and be a full-time enrolled student when the scholarship is awarded (Fall 2012).

The society can award one $1,000 Family Social Science scholarship.

Larry Wilson Scholarship

The Larry Wilson Scholarship recognizes a student who has demonstrated an interest in, and involvement with, non-school-based education. The applicant must be a undergraduate or graduate student in the College of Education and Human Development with a stated career objective related to a non-school-based educational setting (business, professional organization, public agency, nonprofit organization).  The applicant must be a full-time enrolled student when the scholarship is awarded (Fall 2012).

Undergraduate applicants must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and have earned a minimum of 15 credits at time of application.

Graduate applicants must have a minimum 3.8 GPA and have earned a minimum of 9 credits at time of application.

The society can award two $1,000 Larry Wilson scholarships.

Promise of Tomorrow Scholarship

The Promise of Tomorrow Scholarship recognizes academic performance and potential for making a significant contribution to the field of education and human development for a CEHD undergraduate student or a student enrolled in the college's initial teacher licensure program (undergraduate or master's).

The applicant must have earned a minimum of 15 credits at time of application, have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and be a full-time enrolled student when the scholarship is awarded (Fall 2012).

The society can award four $1,000 Promise of Tomorrow scholarships.

Alumni Society Study Abroad Scholarship

The Alumni Society Study Abroad Scholarship is open to all undergraduate applicants in CEHD who are currently enrolled as full-time students in a degree-seeking program, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and are participating in an approved 2012-13 University of Minnesota study abroad program of three weeks or more (15 study or school days), to earn at least 3 credits. This scholarship is specifically targeted at individuals who identify as first generation college students (parents/guardian did not complete a four-year degree).

Students must take part in the study abroad program prior to their graduation clearance (i.e. students applying for clearance at the end of spring semester would not be eligible to receive their scholarship for May or summer sessions).

The society can award two $2,000 Alumni Society Study Abroad scholarships.
