Evaluation of the Collaboratives for Excellence in Teacher
Preparation (CETP)
Purpose of Project
This project ended August 31, 2004
The National Science Foundation (NSF) designed the Collaboratives for
Excellence in Teacher Preparation program (CETP) to significantly
improve the science, mathematics, and technology preparation of future
K-12 teachers and their effectiveness in these areas. The CETP Core
Evaluation project gathers information about completed CETP initiatives
around the country. The CETP Core Evaluation project seeks to answer the
following question:
What evidence exists that the changes instituted as part of the
Collaboratives have indeed resulted in a substantial increase in the
number of students who know more, and are more competent at teaching
mathematics and the sciences using the mathematics and science standards
as a guide and employing the new technologies available?
This Core Evaluation project was summative in nature and was located
at the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement (CAREI)
in the College of Education and
Human Development at the
University of Minnesota. It was managed as a joint effort with
decisions being made by the co-PIs in cooperation with the
collaboratives.
We have received help and materials from many sources, especially the
CETPs, Horizon Research, Inc, Annenberg and ASCD. We would like
this acknowledgement to serve as our sincere expression of gratitude for
the assistance we have received from them.
