Michael L. Michlin is the associate director and a research associate in the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement (CAREI) in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. He also holds graduate faculty status in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the college. Michlin has more than 25 years of experience in designing and conducting evaluations of programs in PK-12 education and higher education. His particular expertise includes management of complex research and evaluation projects, data management, and analysis of quantitative data. At the University of Minnesota, Dr. Michlin spent 15 years in the Multicultural Institute of the Academic Health Center (previously called the Health Sciences Minority Program). There he developed educational enrichment programs and was responsible for their evaluation. During this period, he also worked for several years in the academic support program of the Medical School. While at Duke University in the Department of Education, Dr. Michlin was also the director of the Reading Center.
