Implementing keyboarding and word processing; effective teaching strategies; expected learner outcomes; evaluation methods; selecting hardware; instructional materials (including print, software, Internet); organizing and managing labs.

Fall 2009: CI 5301—Foundations of Computer Applications for Business and Education

Instructional uses of computers and representative business, education, and marketing applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphic design.

Fall 2009: CI 5303—Data Analysis and Information Design for Business and Education

Develop expertise in using spreadsheets to analyze data, monitor business records, and create models.

Fall 2009: CI 5304—Data Management for Online Integration

Business needs for computerized databases. Using database software to develop, maintain, and prepare reports.

Fall 2009: CI 5305—Integrated Computer Applications in Business and Marketing Education

Case-based authentic business computing problems requiring integration of two or more application packages. Pedagogical issues of learning/teaching advanced computer applications.

Fall 2009: CI 5311W—Technology and Ethics in Society

Critique of values and ethical issues related to technology use in education, workplace, and family/community life.

Fall 2009: CI 5323—Online Learning Communities

Students design/research an online learning environment that promotes community. What community is, how it fosters learning in educational learning environments. Theories of distance learning instruction. Community models. technological tools to develop online communities.

Fall 2009: CI 5325—Designing and Developing Online Distance Learning

Students research, use, and evaluate technologies for distance learning and design their own learning environments.

Fall 2009: CI 5330—Topics in Instructional Systems and Technology

Topics related to needs of in-service teachers. Topics, location, credits, and duration are flexible.

Fall 2009: CI 5331—Introduction to Learning Technologies

Orientation to examination of various issues affecting use of technology. Students identify research topics for investigation in future courses and identify key literature in preparation for masters/doctoral examinations.

Fall 2009: CI 5336—Planning for Multimedia Design and Development

Examine theory, research, and practice in the field of instructional design; generic components of the instructional design process; application of principles of instructional design to the design and development of instructional materials.

Fall 2009: CI 5337—Planning for K-12 Technology Design and Integration

Applying principles of instructional design to development of technology-enhanced teaching in K-12 schools. Students create proposal for program/course or lesson development, using basic design principles, technology.

Fall 2009: CI 5351—Technology Tools for Educators

Develop skills in using selected technology applications to support teaching and learning. Internet applications, presentation software, multimedia authoring tools, desktop publishing software, Web page creation. May also include a field-site project.

Fall 2009: CI 5361—Teaching and Learning with the Internet

Capabilities of the Internet for professional development and instructional use. Use of specific client/server software. Instructional issues/opportunities. Implications for K-12 student involvement and classroom management. Web page development by teachers and their students.

Fall 2009: CI 5362—Foundations of Interactive Design for Web-based Learning

Issues influencing design/development of educational multimedia for CD-ROM/Internet delivery. Hardware/software for CD-ROM, Web-based delivery. Design, development, project management.

Fall 2009: CI 5363—New Media and Interaction Design for Web-based Learning

Learn to design and develop computer-based instructional materials using a state of the art authoring language. Introduction to principles of courseware design; multimedia components in instruction; development of computer courseware using the authoring language; tutorial design.

Fall 2009: CI 5367—Interactive Multimedia Instruction

Principles of effective computer-based design; tools in multimedia development; contemporary issues and skills used in the design, development, and implementation of interactive multimedia instruction. Use multimedia development tools, create a multimedia portfolio, and investigate the issues surrounding their effective use.
