Getting started
Online course information
You will receive an e-mail message from the instructor that will
provide a brief description of the course, the course site URL, login
instructions, and the hardware/software you need.
Most courses use WebCT (Web Course Tools) Vista course management system.
You will need to use your University .x500 username and password to log
onto a WebCT course site. if you do not have a University of Minnesota
account, you need to call 612 331-HELP or go to
www.umn.edu/initiate to start
an e-mail account and set up a username/password.
Access to your course is given to you by the instructor. Please take
your time and get familiarized with the key course documents (syllabus
and course calendar) and all the help/support files posted on the course
site.
Please note: student access to online courses is not given
until the official first day of classes.
What technology do you need?
The online learning checklist provides information about the
hardware/software you need to have installed and what you need to know
before you sign up for an online course at the University.
Technical support
If you experience technical problems, first contact your instructor
or the WebCT helpline. You can call 612 331-HELP or e-mail
