Environmental Rating Scales Training
The Assessment Training Center offers this training for a wide variety of audiences, including teachers, administrators, directors, and regional staff. Below is an overview of ERS with details on registration.
The Environment Rating Scales are a set of tools which assess quality in child care settings. CEED-ATC currently trains on the:
- Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale-Revised (ITERS-R; for children 6 weeks to 29 months)
- Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale-Revised (ECERS-R; for children 30 months to kindergarten entry)
- Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale-Revised (FCCERS-R; for children 6 weeks to kindergarten entry)
The purpose of the training is to help baseline staff identified by the Minnesota Department of Human Services to become familiar with the tools in order to become consultants able to work with programs to improve scores on the ITERS-R, ECERS-R, and FCCERS-R.
In order to meet this goal, for each scale, consultants have completed 8 hours of in-class training and two fieldwork days where they have gone into volunteer programs to observe for three-hour time intervals and spent several hours debriefing with CEED-ATC staff on what they have observed. Kerry Gershone is responsible for the training and most field work aspects of the consultant training. Mary Beth Settergren assists with field work visits.
