Training Description

When coaching a child care provider it is important to make sure we are not attempting to replicate someone else, but to instead prepare the provider to go beyond where she has been. Motivational interviewing does just that by guiding, eliciting, supporting and strengthening providers towards the changes they seek while also decreasing their resistance. A strongly person-centered, internal style, motivational interviewing requires the coach to reflect and rephrase as they attempt to align themselves with the provider and focus on curiosity instead of judgment. This introductory workshop will give a brief background of what motivational interviewing is and introduce participants to the basic principles of motivational interviewing. The workshop will also allow coaches to experience and practice practical skills and strategies to use in their work.

Out-of-state participants are welcome at this training.
