Conflicts arise many times a
day in the life of an early childhood professional. The growing
violence in our communities, on television, in movies, videos, and
even computer games has increased not only the amount of conflict
but also the inappropriate responses to it. How do you learn to deal
effectively with conflict, and how do you teach children how to
become effective problem solvers and conflict resolvers?
This video, created and
produced by the Partnership to Address Violence through Education
(PAVE) demonstrates a process for teachers of young children that
will aid in developing and practicing the skills for effectively
communicating through conflict.
PAVE developed an innovative
initiative that prepares early childhood professionals to deal with
conflict in the classrooms, with parents and with fellow teachers.
The guiding principle of PAVE is that early childhood educators
should be well trained in conflict resolution and problem solving
and that they in turn give children opportunities to practice their
own communication skills.
The processes described in
this video assist early childhood professionals in forging
relationships, increasing personal power, and strengthening
leadership capacity. This video is accompanied by a thorough and
easy-to-follow guide that enhances the use and impact of this video.
