Research Interests
I currently coordinate the K-12 Teachers of Computer, Keyboarding and Related Technology Applications endorsement program. I am passionate about teaching and advising students. My research interests include the interplay of various facets of teacher knowledge including pedagogy, technology, and business content.
Teacher knowledge is multifaceted. In this technological era, teachers’ and students’ use of technology is expected. However, how and when individuals learn to use computer technologies varies greatly. The learning and subsequent use of computer technologies must be sequential and built on prior schemas. Technology instruction should be considered in conjunction with a content discipline. I am a strong advocate of project based learning and the need for students to understand technology as a tool for solving real problems.
I have taught and designed curriculum for computer technology courses at all educational levels. My experiences include summer computer networking camps for elementary-age students, keyboarding and desktop applications for middle and high school students, computer networking for high school and community college students, as well as business productivity applications at the University of Minnesota. In addition, I have informally trained employees in the staffing industry on relational databases I have designed. Working with this range of learners has enriched my understanding of teaching and learning with technology and driven my interest in technological content knowledge pedagogy.
