Elementary education scholarships and fellowships
Joanne Buggey Endowed Fellowship in Elementary Education
An annual fellowship award for a graduate student enrolled through the Graduate School studying in the area of elementary education. Preference will be given to students who have completed their undergraduate course of study at the University of Minnesota.
Amount: One award of varying amount available yearly; this year an award of $3000 is available.
Deadline: Applications are due by April 1, 2011 and will be
reviewed by a subcommittee of the
Elementary Education faculty.
Award date: A decision will be made by May 2, 2011.

Application procedure: Applicants should submit the following application materials to Kathleen Cramer at 252 Peik Hall.
- Cover page: Include the following information on a cover page: Name of the award you are applying for; your name, address, phone number, UMN ID#; email address; the degree program you are in (M.A. or Ph.D.) name of advisor; major/track; and anticipated date of graduation.
- Transcript: Submit a transcript that should include the most recent semester grades and current GPA.
- Personal statement: Describe in no more than two single-spaced pages your graduate work and how it is related to working with elementary education students.
- Advisor signature: Include advisor's signature at the bottom of your cover page to indicate this person's support of your application.

Mithun Graduate Fellowship
This fellowship is intended to provide support for graduate students whose career interest focuses on elementary education, and, in particular, on elementary curriculum development for low-income students, disenfranchised students, or children with especially challenging educational needs.
Amount: One $5,000 graduate fellowship will be awarded for spring 2011.
Deadline: Applications for this fellowship must be submitted by April 1, 2011.
Award date: Applicants will be notified of selection by May 2, 2011.

Selection criteria: Individuals enrolled in, applying for, or planning to apply for, admission in a Graduate School degree program in Curriculum and Instruction with ah emphasis in elementary education, and whose professional goals and experiences reflect dedication to opening access to and meeting the needs of disenfranchised students, low income students, and/or children with especially challenging educational needs. In addition, consideration will be given to academic achievement and leadership potential.

- Transcript: Transcripts and GRE scores submitted as part of the application for graduate school will be considered in the selection of the recipient.
- Personal statement: Typed single-spaced statement (2 pages, maximum) summarizing professional goals and experiences related to elementary education, elementary curriculum development for low income students, disenfranchised students and/or children with especially challenging educational needs, and academic achievements that pertain to being an advocate for these individuals.
- Advisor signature: Include advisor's signature at the bottom of your cover page to indicate this person's support of your application.

Priscilla Hawn Endowed Fellowship Fund
