Graduating and degree clearance

Clearing your degree for graduation should be done at least one full month before completion of final coursework. Degrees are cleared to graduate on a monthly basis. To allow for sufficient time for processing, students are encouraged to submit their form for graduation three months before the desired degree completion date. There are three things that a student needs to do to clear his or her degree for graduation.

  1. Complete all program requirements.
  2. Submit Program Plan form.
Obtain a Program Plan form and list the courses you have taken for your degree completion. You may use the green form you received at orientation or print the 2-page PDF file linked above and fill it out. When you’ve completed the form, sign it and obtain the signatures of your adviser and the program head.
  3. Apply to graduate.
Complete the Application for Degree form, which can be obtained online or by contacting Student Services at 150 Williamson Hall, 231 Pillsbury Dr. S.E., Minneapolis, MN 55455, 612-625-6501.

Submit the completed Application for Degree along with your completed Program Plan form (with all signatures) to the Student Services office. Signatures on the Program Plan must be original—do not submit a photocopy of the document. If any of your coursework for graduation is transferred from other institutions, you must submit petitions and official transcripts along with the degree application and Program Plan. Any changes made to your program after filing the Program Plan in the Student Services office must be submitted to Student Services via the Petition for Students in Undergraduate and Professional Programs form.
