Applying to the elementary education
initial licensure program (ILP)
Elementary education foundations majors who want to pursue licensure as elementary teachers will need to complete the post-baccalaureate initial licensure program (ILP) after they graduate. The ILP is two semesters in length. During the ILP, you will spend extensive time in an elementary school and participate in co-teaching with an experienced elementary teacher. You will also take methods courses. All of the credits in the ILP contribute to your M.Ed.
Admissions requirements
The initial licensure program requires a 2.8 overall GPA and satisfactory professional competency reviews. Applicants must also submit an essay, a record of experiences in elementary schools, and scores from the MTLE basic skills tests (see link in the box on the right). Application deadlines
Applications must be submitted by the following deadlines:
- For spring admission: September 15 of the previous year
- For fall admission: December 15 of the previous year
