Evaluation studies master's (M.A.) track

in educational policy and administration

The master of arts (M.A.) degree with a program emphasis in evaluation studies (ES), administered by the Graduate School and offered by the Department of Educational Policy and Administration (EdPA), provides an opportunity for intensive study of the techniques and process of evaluation and policy research and of the social and political context within which program evaluation occurs.

Who enrolls in this program?

Students enrolled in ES are the future leaders, educators and evaluators in the field of evaluation studies. Students in the program will gain expertise in both quantitative and qualitative methods and practical experience in the conduct of program evaluation and policy studies. The program is selective and is limited to 10 students per year. All new students begin the program in the fall semester. Classes may be taken the previous summer if permission is obtained from the program coordinator. The department supports the University mission to achieve student diversity in our programs. Our success has demonstrated the benefits to the growth and development of all students.

Admission requirements

What will my program look like?

The M.A. requires that students enrolled under the semester system take at least 30 credits of coursework. Typically, a course that meets once a week throughout the semester is 3 credits. As part of their program of study, students prepare a master's Plan B paper (2-4 semester credits).  Students can complete the coursework on either a full-time or part-time basis.

Curriculum

How long will my master's program take?

Many students are employed full-time and spread their course work over 2 years (including summers). M.A. students must successfully complete their course work, Plan B paper and final oral examination to receive their degree. All degree requirements must be completed within seven years after starting the program including any previous coursework that may be transferred into the degree program.
