Admission
to the educational psychology—psychological
foundations of education and quantitative methods in education tracks
Applications to the psychological foundations and quantitative methods
in education tracks are
reviewed on an individual basis as they are received. In
reviewing applications the following criteria
are considered:
- Stated career goals and appropriateness of the program
for the applicant
- Experiential background (both academic and general),
life history, and work experiences
- Predictors for success in graduate work, such as
undergraduate performance, test scores, and letters of
recommendation
- Mutual interests with program faculty
Deadlines
The psychological foundations and quantitative
methods in education tracks admit for
fall and spring semesters, as well as summer session. All
application materials must be received by the following
dates:
Fall: December 1 (for fellowship and departmental financial aid
consideration)
Spring: October 15
Summer: March 1
Please note: There are two deadlines for fall semester
applications. The departmental application materials are for both admission and
financial support including, but not limited to, fellowships and
assistantships. Students who wish to be considered for fellowships
and departmental financial assistance must submit all application materials
to the program and the Graduate School by the December 1st deadline.
Spring, summer and fall (March) applicants will be
disadvantaged in fellowship and TA/RA opportunities.
Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
The GRE (General) is required for all applicants and must have been taken
within five years of date of application. GRE testing
schedules and registration information can be found on the
Web at www.gre.org. Applicants from China (including Hong
Kong), Korea, and Taiwan will be required to take the Split-Test
Administration of the GRE General Test. Applicants from these countries who
previously took the computer-based test on either November 23, 2002, or
March 15, 2003, will need
to re-take the test.
The University Counseling and
Consulting Service Testing Center provides test administration,
scoring, and score reporting services to the University and surrounding
community. The Computer-Based
Testing Center administers the GRE
General and Writing Tests, the GMAT, PPST, and TOEFL.
Financial aid
Sources of support administered
by the department are teaching assistantships, research
assistantships available through funded projects sponsored
by department faculty, and fellowships supported by the
Graduate School. The department also nominates promising
students for University-wide fellowship competition provided
by the Graduate School. Underrepresented and educationally
disadvantaged students are eligible to be nominated for
special fellowships. Stipends and conditions vary for
different forms of support. Students who wish to be
considered for fellowships and departmental financial
assistance must submit all application materials to the
program and the Graduate School by December 1st. Prospective
students are encouraged to apply to the Office of Student Finance (http://onestop.umn.edu/onestop/Finances/)
and to external agencies for financial aid. The departmental application
materials are for both admission and departmental financial support.
Application materials
Two applications are required - you will apply to the department and to
the Graduate School.
Three letters of recommendation are required. You must input the
names and contact information for each recommendation provider in
your Graduate School online application.
