Learning and cognition – M.A. curriculum

  1. Required learning and cognition courses (min. 6 credits)
    You must take at least two of the following courses:

    EPSY 5101—Intelligence and Creativity, 3cr.

    EPSY 5112—Knowing, Learning, and Thinking, 4cr.

    EPSY 5113—Psychology of Instruction and Technology, 3cr.

    EPSY 5118—Language: Psycholinguistic Research and Educational Application, 3 cr.

    EPSY 5191—Education of the Gifted and Talented, 3 cr.

    EPSY 5200—Special Topics: Psychological Foundations
     
  2. Specialization courses in learning and cognition (min. 6 credits)
    You must take at least some combination of the following courses:

    EPSY 8114—Seminar: Cognition and Learning, 3cr.
    (EPsy 8114 may be repeated up to two times.)
    EPSY 8115—Psychology of Instruction and Technology, 3cr.
  3. Departmental & PsyF core requirements

    3 credits of social psychology/personality courses:
    You must take one of the following courses:

    EPSY 5151—Cooperative Learning, 3 cr.
    EPSY 5155—Group Dynamics and Social Influence, 3 cr.
    EPSY 5157—Social Psychology of Education, 3 cr.

    6 credits of statistics AND measurement courses:
    You must take at least two of the following courses (1 statistic and 1 measurement):

    Statistics:
    EPSY 8261—Statistical Methods I: Probability and Inference, 3 cr.
    EPSY 8262—Statistical Methods II: Regression and the General Linear Model, 3 cr.

    Measurement:
    EPSY 5221
    —Basic Principles of Educational Measurement, 4 cr.
    PSY 5862—Psychological Measurement: Theory and Methods, 3 cr.
     
  4. Graduate School requirements

    Minor or related fields (minimum 6 credits – check with your adviser for consultation/permission concerning this requirement):
    You must complete a minimum of 6 credits of coursework outside the Educational Psychology deptartment (if selecting a minor, check with intended minor department for credit and course requirements).

  1. Master's thesis/Plan B paper
    EPSY 8777 Thesis Credits: Master's (10 cr.) for Plan A
    OR
    EPSY 5991 Independent Study or EPSY8994 Research Problems (6 cr.) for Plan B paper

     

Total minimum credits required for M.A.: 33-37 credits
