Experiential learning resources
Experiential learning is "learning by doing." It is a great way for students to gain experience and helps connect classroom theory to the "real world." It also allows students to test drive their career choice to see if there is a fit and develop the skills employers seek.
CEHD Career Services encourages students to engage in experiential learning opportunities early in their academic career. CEHD Career Services defines early engagement as student involvement in learning opportunities outside the classroom during their first and second year. Early engagement allows students to take an active role in testing their interests and developing skills.
Early experiences outside the classroom assist students by:
- Determining whether their choice of major and/or career fit their interests, values, and skills
- Building self-confidence
- Building a network of contacts familiar with their strengths
- Developing the skills employers seek
CEHD Career Services assists students in determining the experiences that best fit with their academic and career goals and allow them to develop and build their skills.
CEHD Career Services supports early engagement through:
- Individual career counseling appointments focusing on the decision-making, search, and application processes
- Listings of experiential learning opportunities through online databases including GoldPass, the U of M central internship and job database.
