Ambiguous Loss Visiting Scholar Week Monday, April 20, 2015

Dr. Joyce Arditti from Virginia Tech will visit the Department of Family Social Science April 19-24, as the Ambiguous Loss Visiting Scholar for 2015. During this week she will present a colloquium on April 22 at 12:00 p.m.  She will also be available to meet with Family Social Science faculty and students to discuss her work and possible research partnerships. 

Dr. Arditti will return in the fall as the Cornerstone Symposium keynote speaker. 

 

Her research interests include family disruption, parent-child relationships in vulnerable families, and public policy. Her scholarship is recognized nationally and internationally and she has published numerous empirical and review articles in therapy, human services, family studies, and criminal justice journals. She is the author of the book Parental incarceration and the family: Psychological and social effects of imprisonment on children, parents, and care-givers, for which she was the 2014 recipient of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences Outstanding Book Award. 

Dr. Arditti served as the Editor in Chief of Family Relations: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Studies. She is a Fellow of the National Council on Family Relations, and Chair of the Research and Theory Section. She is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Child and Family Studies, serves on various editorial boards, and is actively involved in research projects dealing with families involved in the criminal justice system.
