Second
languages and cultures
education
This area of study addresses teaching issues in all
second language settingsworld languages, English as a second language
(ESL), dual language education, and immersion education.
The coursework includes instruction both for teachers who work
with English language learners (ELL) and limited English proficiency (LEP)
learners generally and those who work specifically with bilingual
learners and refugee/immigrant learners. By incorporating attention
to all second language teaching contexts within one program,
students gain broad perspectives that are valuable regardless of
their setting.
