Marriage and family therapy
The marriage and family therapy (MFT) program is offered at the
doctoral level through the
Department of Family Social Science, whose mission includes
developing the next generation of leaders and change agents in the
MFT field.
MFT students are trained to become world-class therapists,
trainers of therapists, therapy researchers, therapy supervisors,
therapy program developers, and therapy administrators.
Program highlights
National accreditation:
The MFT program is accredited by the American Association
for Marriage and Family Therapy.
Supervision
practicum:
Third-year MFT doctoral students are eligible to apply for the
supervision practicum, in which they supervise masters students
whose academic programs give approval.
Clinical training:
Students receive 1000 hours of clinical contact training during
their doctoral program, with credit for up to 500 clinical hours in
a prior masters program.
